The 10 Best Jack White Songs

Many Jack White Bands, Faces of Jack White, best Jack White Songs,

Editor’s note: This list was originally published in 2013, but with the release of the new Dead Weather record, we thought we would revisit one of our favorite lists and modern artists.

When Jack White releases something new, we are sure to break out all the bells and whistles to announce its arrival. Today, we update our best Jack White songs list with the new album and White’s last album in mind. While we certainly love a handful of songs on the new album (“High Ball Stepper”, “Temporary Ground”, “Entitlement”), the fact that we are still relatively new to these songs held them from back from making a stacked list.

So without further ado, the best of Jack White:

The 10 Best Winter Songs

Top 10 Best Winter Songs

Not sure where your neck of the woods is, but where I am (the Chicago area), it got mighty frigid this week. So in honor of our prickly cold weather, we give you the best songs for this time of year, our favorite winter songs. In evaluating these songs, much like how we evaluated  our top ten albums of winter last year, we tried to find the ten songs that best encapsulate the look, feel, and sound of the season; not just our ten favorite songs that just so happened to mention winter. So without further ado, the ten best songs for this frisky weather.

B.L.U.E.S. Night in Chicago: a Show and Venue Review

Toronzo Cannon and the Cannonball Express

B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted Show Review of Toronzo Cannon

I have heard that there are three essential late night Chicago experiences every Chicagoan must do: a jazz club, blues bar, and improv comedy.  My wife and I as of this past Friday accomplished the 2nd of the three (having already done a jazz club), hitting up B.L.U.E.S., a Chicago blues staple since 1979, with a couple friends who came to town. Improv will have to come soon with a visit to Second City surely in our future.

LxListening: I Got the Blues … the Bad Bears Blues

jay cutler, sad, bad, frown

Being the Chicago Bears die-hard I am, I find myself in a bit of a slump this evening. Last week the Bears (after the first few possessions) came out of the gate fists-a-swingin’, leading me to believe that we would have a very promising season. After last’s nights debacle with the Packers, I am still hopeful, but not quite as confident as I was yesterday. In any case, it suits me quite well given my music preference in this past week, to have a case of “the blues” about it. It’s almost as if my subconscious knew exactly what to prepare me for. In the midst of all the new glitz and glamor with recent albums that have dropped (or leaked), I still have had a hard time pulling away from my “blues” catalogue. Normally about 4-5 times a year I’ll slip heavy into a “blues” funk, and no matter what else is going on, I can’t seem to want to listen to anything else. All other times of the year it’s prevalent, but not as prominent. Because of all the new material at my fingertips lately, this week hasn’t been as par with the rest of those heavy weeks. However, I assure you it will come on full-bore tomorrow, after the suffering of what was last night’s game which included or notorious hero Jay Cutler being sacked seven times and throwing four interceptions. Here are some of my most coveted blues classics as of old.

Fifty Licks: 50 Songs for 50 Years | 50-31

rolling stones, the stones, 50th anniversary, 50, years, 50 years, tongue, mouth,

While Little by Listen is certainly small in name and stature, that doesn’t mean we can’t assemble a huge list. All three of us have had a long love for the Rolling Stones, and with their 50th Anniversary this year(a milestone reached by only an elite few) , it sort of lends itself clearly to a top 50 songs list. So while Time is releasing a commemorative book for the Stones this week and there is even a 50th anniverary tour to come, nothing says legendary like a LxL top 50 list for your band. Yesterday, we brought you the best five Stones albums, today we bring you Fifty Licks.

Songs 50-31 | 30-11 |10-1

50. “Moonlight Mile”

One of their best album closers (beside maybe “Salt of the Earth”), “Moonlight Mile” closes Sticky Fingers  on a gracious note, a song also brilliantly covered by the Flaming Lips live.

Top Ten Thursday: Jack White Out

Top Ten Thursday: Jack White Out

Many Jack White Bands, Faces of Jack White, best Jack White Songs,

Continuing our week of unabashed love and adoration for Jack White, we thought what better than to bring an all-Jack list to the masses (or…our friends’ basements), and a day early at that. Our discussions were actually much longer and vicious than our usual list quarrels, really feeling the weight of making such a jam-packed list as this. We discussed a few songs off of Blunderbussmaking the list (primarily “Love Interruption”, “Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy” and “Trash Tongue Talker”) before finally settling on leaving them off, since they have only had a week to sink in, unlike these other songs, which we have loved and rocked out to for years. So without further ado, the best of Jack White:
