The 10 Best Jack White Songs

Many Jack White Bands, Faces of Jack White, best Jack White Songs,

Editor’s note: This list was originally published in 2013, but with the release of the new Dead Weather record, we thought we would revisit one of our favorite lists and modern artists.

When Jack White releases something new, we are sure to break out all the bells and whistles to announce its arrival. Today, we update our best Jack White songs list with the new album and White’s last album in mind. While we certainly love a handful of songs on the new album (“High Ball Stepper”, “Temporary Ground”, “Entitlement”), the fact that we are still relatively new to these songs held them from back from making a stacked list.

So without further ado, the best of Jack White:

I had never seen Jack White before in any of his iterations, so anyone out there that has seen him can probably understand my exhilaration seeing him for the first time Sunday.  I expected it to be wonderful for a number of reasons, including my love of his entire catalog personal accounts from others.  I guess even with soaring expectations it is still possible to be awed.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra with Foxygen Show Review

Unknown Mortal Orchestra
with special guests Foxygen

Lincoln Hall
Chicago, IL

Unknown Mortal Orchestra, live, 3/7/2012, Lincoln Hall

Lincoln Hall! Wow! Hats off to venues that can dovetail a bar, a restaurant,
and concert venue in such an incredibly seamless fashion. This place is
one of the best small venues I’ve been too, sound-wise, environment-wise,
and price-wise. Not only that, but they are also home to one of the better
tacos (pork belly mind you) and beer selections I’ve ever seen at a music
venue. If you’re looking to catch a cheap show in Chicago, I’d start here.
Last night fellow LxL’er Wes and myself were treated to quite the show
in this wonderful hall of sound and music. The lineup: Wampire, Foxygen, and
Unknown Mortal Orchestra. All psychedelic throwbacks, each equipped with
their own unique sounds and quirks. If you follow us at LxL, I know you’ve
heard me gush over two of these three bands a lot lately. Well put on your
raincoat because I’m about to gush all over the place once again.

The Neighbourhood Show Review (Portlandia Style)

The Neighbourhood

The Crystal Ballroom
Portland, OR (eye roll) (duh!)

The Neighbourhood Live, crystal ballroom

So we went to a .94 cent show this past weekend, which was actually
free since it was sold out and people were just handing out the extra
tickets they bought in advance. Can’t beat that! The show was at the
Crystal Ballroom, which I expected to be bigger for some reason, I
suppose because I lot of people play there, but it was you’re average
smaller band venue (think House of Blues or Murat). The first band was
two chicks (I didn’t realize how frequent the whole two person band
thing was) and we couldn’t quite figure out if they were good enough,
but the lead singer was so bouncy and cute I want to give them the
benefit of the doubt. For the record, they were Chaos Chaos.

Top Ten Thursday: Jack White Out

Top Ten Thursday: Jack White Out

Many Jack White Bands, Faces of Jack White, best Jack White Songs,

Continuing our week of unabashed love and adoration for Jack White, we thought what better than to bring an all-Jack list to the masses (or…our friends’ basements), and a day early at that. Our discussions were actually much longer and vicious than our usual list quarrels, really feeling the weight of making such a jam-packed list as this. We discussed a few songs off of Blunderbussmaking the list (primarily “Love Interruption”, “Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy” and “Trash Tongue Talker”) before finally settling on leaving them off, since they have only had a week to sink in, unlike these other songs, which we have loved and rocked out to for years. So without further ado, the best of Jack White:
