The 10 Best Prince Songs or: The List Formerly Known as Our Favorite Songs by the Artist Prince

prince-rip

Editor’s note: With the shocking and sudden death of Prince, the best way we know how to mourn is share his songs that we loved the most. With that, here is our list from 2014 of our favorite Prince songs of all time. Let all the doves cry out.

——————————————————————————–

I am sure that if you told Prince that you could order ten of his best all-time songs onto a list of ten, he would make the exact face above and sink it deep into your soul. It is hard to put together a list of such a beloved artist’s songs, especially after releasing thirty-three albums. His thirty-third and thirty-second of which were recently simultaneously released on September 30th. For the occasion (although late), we decided to take on the daunting task of trying to list our favorites anyways. The result is quite a crowd-pleasing list I would say. If you are looking for some serious deep tracks you should probably look elsewhere, but if you can argue the legitimacy of these legendary wonders of pop music, we would love to hear those arguments below. Now onto the list:

LxL’s 20 Best Songs of 2015

bestmusic2015-albums
We may be running a bit behind already in 2016, but better late than never. Here is what we at LxL agreed were the top tracks of 2015:

20. Alabama Shakes – “Don’t Wanna Fight”
From the moment Brittany Howards screeching intro to beers into your ears, you can feel in your bones that this track is going to be great. It does not let down one bit throughout either.

The 10 Worst Christmas Songs of All Time

LxL_TopTenThursdays_900x300

Bad, Worst Christmas Songs, santa claus

We at LxL have a very strong love/hate relationship with Christmas music. Last week we focused on the rare Christmas gems that exist in music, so this week we decided to focus on the hate side of that relationship. Just as every sweet needs its sour, every Bing Crosby needs its Bryan Adams. Below are a few of the Christmas songs we loathe the most. The ones that really help induce a month of radio banishment, a lot of hair pulling as well as teeth cringing, and classic holiday depression/alcoholism. So below we give you our inspiration for wearing ear plugs until January 1st. Now let’s get scroogy! Onto the list:

Editor’s note: This list originally published in 2012.

The 5 Most Thankful Songs For Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving, Turkey, day, holiday, thanks, pilgrims, native americans

LxL is taking a short hiatus for the upcoming holiday weekend, but before we go we wanted to give thanks for our favorite songs that also happen to give thanks in their own right. Because this is not a Top Ten Thursday post, we decided to keep things short and sweet with five solid tracks in this edition of Weak List Wednesday: Thanks!. We feel these tracks best represent the spirit of thankfulness, glorified gluttony, and pilgrims eating Native Americans … I mean pilgrims eating WITH the Native Americans … wait how’d that go? Anyways, onto the list:

The 10 Spookiest Songs

LxL_TopTenThursdays_02_900x300Halloween Concert, halloween songs

With All Hallows Eve on the horizon, we thought it fitting to list out our favorite tracks that best celebrate the holiday. Many, many songs were optioned for this list and the race was so tight we decided to eliminate all soundtracks or scores. It is a separate list for a different day because there are just too many good ones. Additionally almost every Odd Future or Tyler, the Creator track was discussed to the point we decided to just list him here as his own entity. Everything that man touches sounds like a nightmare, but one in which I frequently enjoy. So without further ado, I give you are favorite tracks for any Halloween or Werewolf Bar Mitzvah alike:

Editor’s Note: This list was originally published in 2012, but is really good for any Halloween.

The 10 Best Apple Commercial Songs

apple commercial silhouette

Editor’s Note: With the release of the new Steve Jobs biopic, we thought we would revisit one of our favorite lists, the 10 Best Apple Commercial Songs.

Without any text, logo, or even a direct picture of the actual product in question, almost anyone in the world would be able to tell you what product the above advertisement is for. At the very least, they could tell you which company is behind it. This is a direct result of the genius of Apple marketing. Whether it is a silhouette of someone dancing in front of a bright background, a simple product/hand shot in front of a white background, or a “geek” talking to a “hipster” side-by-side in front of a white background, most every one of Apple’s major marketing campaigns is simple, clean, instantly recognizable, and often imitated/parodied. One thing that is also synonymous with these marketing campaigns is the use of pop music. Apple’s use of pop music in each of its ads is almost poetic. Many artist could even credit Apple for helping launch their careers. Now before the momentous release of the Steve Jobs biopic Jobs led by none other the great Ashton Kutcher (what?), we went ahead and listed our favorite songs used/use of songs in Apple commercials. As a qualifying factor of this list we decided we must first: love the song. Second: the use of song. And third: the song in consideration must be a popular song. No originals allowed! Which is unfortunate for songs/ads like this one that have a cripplingly brilliant effect to them …

Onto the list:

The 15 Best Songs for Autumn

Editor’s Note: This list originally published in 2013.

One year ago, LxL brought you our top ten songs of Autumn. We decided instead of simply reposting the list, we would add a bit to it. So here on this Top Ten Thursday, we give you our top FIFTEEN tracks we feel represent Autumn at it’s best. Do we insist the song make mention to falling leaves, postseason baseball, or pumpkin patches?  Do we go by feeling?  We did exactly what we always do, which is whatever the hell we want:
