Early on in The Sound of Music, the nuns of Nonnberg Abbey sing a number asking, “How do you solve a problem like Maria?”.  I imagine most of the viewers of NBC’s The Sound of Music Live were asking the same question upon seeing Carrie Underwood’s performance in the lead role of one of the most beloved musicals of all time.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand why Carrie Underwood was cast in role of Maria.  In fact, I’m quite certain this production would not have aired during prime time without Underwood’s name attached to it (unless of course Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Ke$ha were alternately cast).  The question that needs to be asked is whether there was any point to this undertaking if the lead role couldn’t be filled with someone with actual acting talent.  Yes and no.

Arcade Fire Here Comes the Night Time Review

Following the season premiere of Saturday Night Live featuring host Tina Fey and musical guests Arcade Fire, NBC surprisingly aired a straight-up trippy half-hour concert special for Arcade Fire called “Here Comes the Night Time”, named after one of the songs off their much-anticipated upcoming album, Reflektor. Beside playing their disco lead single “Reflektor” and debuting another song “Afterlife” on SNL, the Canadian indie rockers debuted three new songs on the special as well as a slew of high profile cameos and strange costumes, making for a very strange but very bold half-hour of television for NBC.

You Can Catch Me & My Crew Listening To “Hot Cheetos and Takis”

Time to get your face melted. Not from some wicked guitar lick or an outrageous drum solo, but from the crazy heat of all these Hot Cheetos and Takis. A northern Minneapolis YMCA put together a local Beats and Rhymes program for kids in the area. Not only has this program seemed to have taken off in the community, but it just helped launch one group of kids into the world of viral stardom with one song. After only 2 weeks of being uploaded to YouTube the video is garnering over a million hits, and I have a feeling that number will drastically increase within this next week.
