Editor’s note: With the shocking and sudden death of Prince, the best way we know how to mourn is share his songs that we loved the most. With that, here is our list from 2014 of our favorite Prince songs of all time. Let all the doves cry out.
I am sure that if you told Prince that you could order ten of his best all-time songs onto a list of ten, he would make the exact face above and sink it deep into your soul. It is hard to put together a list of such a beloved artist’s songs, especially after releasing thirty-three albums. His thirty-third and thirty-second of which were recently simultaneously released on September 30th. For the occasion (although late), we decided to take on the daunting task of trying to list our favorites anyways. The result is quite a crowd-pleasing list I would say. If you are looking for some serious deep tracks you should probably look elsewhere, but if you can argue the legitimacy of these legendary wonders of pop music, we would love to hear those arguments below. Now onto the list:

If you follow us at all, you have probably figured by now that this list was inevitable. Our month-long love fest for Daft Punk is now wrapping up, so here we are. We determined this list by all randomly creating our own lists and then normalizing those three lists into one master. We have done this before, and most of the time our lists are drastically different from one another. Not the case for this one. It was a pretty clear cut top ten aside from each of our own misses. One surprising note (or maybe not so surprising depending on how you look at it) is that Discovery was the clear cut album favorite, pulling away with five victories and one miss. Now onto the list:
10. “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”
Infectious is a word that I could use for each and every song description on this list. So I decided I’d just go ahead and blow it on the first one. One thing that makes this song so great is the way it sporadically breathes. It never totally lets loose instrumentally or lyrically. It’s like the vocals and the instruments go back and forth, battling for their own ground. The victory goes to the robots, for crafting such an infectious and fun dance tune that won’t wear you out.

After a hiatus of nearly 4 years, (Has it really already been four years?!) Trent Reznor announced this week that he and a new lineup of all stars will be bringing Nine Inch Nails back to life for a 2013-2014 world tour. (Pause for applause.) If there is one thing we love here at LxL it is our NIN, so we were quite excited to hear this news. Reznor has proven to still show value to the music community in his time off from Nine Inch Nails, especially in the cinema soundtrack world – Reznor teamed up with Atticus Ross to create the scores for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network, which earned him a Golden Globe. However, we are glad to have him back in full-on NIN form. So to celebrate, we have listed our top ten favorite Nine Inch Nails tracks. This was a difficult one to order, especially because after you have seen some of these songs live, you literally aren’t the same person anymore. And unfortunately nothing from The Slip, slipped it’s way into the list. Which it took a lot to leave tracks like “1,000,000” and “Echoplex” off. Nonetheless, we pushed through the disagreements and landed on a list we are quite happy with. We hope you feel the same, but if not, let us know.
