10 Best Scottish Music Acts (aka The Highest Music From the Highlands)

best Scottish music acts

With the release of the highly anticipated second Chvrches record, Every Open Eye, we thought we would look at our favorite acts from the Highlands, good old Scotland. When doing the list, we were pleasantly surprised with how teeming Scotland has been with independent talent. So here are our 10 favorite from Scotland Yard.

10. Frightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbitt
Until sitting down to write this list, I had no idea Frightened Rabbit had been around so long (since 2003 or so).  I kind of thought their 2011 ep and subsequent album, State Hospital, were their beginnings, so to speak.  I’m almost less impressed now, as those were some of my favorite listens back then.  Continue reading “10 Best Scottish Music Acts (aka The Highest Music From the Highlands)”

Going, Going, Gone! Best “Grand Slam” Artists of All Time

Baseball-Guitar grand slam music

With people flooding baseball stadiums all over the country for their favorite teams opening day, we thought we would kick this season off with a grand slam list of our own. The rules were a bit tricky on this one, but we decided to pick artists that had four great albums in succession. Thus being the grand slam of their career. This idea was taken from music podcast Sound Opinions, who offered their favorite musical grand slams last year. Which is actually surprisingly more rare than one would think. So this is our list in tribute for those who have accomplished such heights in the breath of their career. As always, feel free to give us your qualms:
10. Roxy Music
Roxy Music
The Grand Slam Albums:
For Your Pleasure (1973)
Stranded (1973)
Country Life (1974)
Siren (1975)

The ever fantastic Black Lips will be releasing their seventh studio album next week. In honor of this, we thought we would do a fairly straight forward, but very appropriate list. This week we give you our favorite bands with “black” in their title. There are surprisingly a lot of great ones, but we narrowed it down to what we consider to be the best. Enjoy!

blk jks
Pronounced “Black Jacks”, these four experimental rockers from Johannesburg, South Africa have been around for almost 14 years now, but due to minimal press and touring, they have stayed fairly low key. Although very unwarranted in our opinion.
