LxListening: I Don’t Like It Unless It’s Brand New

It is that time of year. Spring is springing up and so is a lot of great new music. Here are some of my favorites as of recent.

Sylvan Esso – “Coffee”

“Coffee” combines a very light, chimey, airy backbeat with the incredible voice of Amelia Randall Meath. Glimpses of classic and new tracks are sprinkled about the song. One of favorites of the year so far.

ZONERS – “Take It Back”

Quite the mood shift from “Coffee”, but much needed to get you amped for the weekend. ZONERS are new to the scene, but are quickly making their presence known. Power pop punk all the way.

Courtney Barnett – “Avant Gardner”

Ok, this track actually came out last year, but it’s just finding its way onto my playlist now. Nonetheless, it is a great song, from a great album, that was certainly overlooked somehow last year by me. Courtney may not sound punk in music, but her attitude and Lou Reedish speak-sing style through “Avant Gardner” feels very much like punk to me.

The Orwells – “Southern Comfort”

The Orwells are becoming a new favorite of mine after seeing their ridiculous live performance last Halloween. They opened for FIDLAR and totally stole the show. “Southern Comfort” is their newest track, and does not disappoint.

The Orwells – “Who Needs You”

And why not just throw this one on there for good measure. Another track from last year on a “brand new music” playlist. Sue me.

Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks – “Little Fang”

Animal Collective’s lead man, Avey Tare, launched another solo project this year with Angel Deradoorian from Dirty Projectors, and Ponytail-drummer, Jeremy Hyman. The result is great, and “Little Fang” is a fun little lead single from the new project.
