LxListening: As Lo As Fi Can Go

If you haven’t deduced by the title, I have been listening to a lot of shi**y sounding garage rock lately. Which incidentally, sounds far from shi**y, but rather incredibly pleasant to my ears. It began when the Screaming Females performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series. I keep going back to them, and it spun me right back into my frequent obsession with dirty, overly distorted, garage-rock-grunge-punk. The 5 songs I am going to list are actually fairly fun, poppy, upbeat songs for each artist. So let loose and enjoy …

1. Screaming Females – “I Don’t Mind It”

Screaming Females have been a fairly overlooked band in recent years. This single off their last album shows that they have the accessibility to change that. I hope they do come April.
2. Surf City – “See How the Sun”

This song takes me back to my Long Beach days. Not for any reason than that is when I was given the album, and I want to listen to it while walking to The Pike for a pint like I used to a year ago.
3. Black Lips – “Modern Art”

One of my favorite songs from last year. I haven’t been able to get The Black Lips off my playlist for over 4 years now, and their newest effort has not broke precedent. I’m glad some bands still don’t give a shit.
4. Yuck – “The Wall”

Luckily, I’m tall …
5. Iggy Pop and the Stooges – “Shake Appeal”

Had I not included Iggy, this list would lose all credibility. If this song doesn’t make you shake or convulse in some manner, I doubt you and I get along.
Thanks for putting up with this list. If you enjoyed it and are dying for more, you can check out my full Lo-Fi playlist here.
